Professional Cabinet Door Refinishing
FAQs on Cabinet Door Refinishing at Old Virginia Woodworking
We can give your kitchen a facelift without an expensive and disruptive remodel. Answers to our most-asked questions are below. Contact us with additional questions or to get a quote for your project.
Why have kitchen cabinet doors refinished vs. replacing the doors or buying new cabinets?
Lower Cost—Refinishing cabinet doors and drawer fronts is typically less expensive than buying replacement doors. We give you back your original kitchen’s look for a reasonable price.
Less hassle – We come to your location and remove the doors, we do the messy work in our shop instead of your kitchen, and we return to install the refinished doors and do any minor face frame repairs onsite. This process means a lot fewer days of unusable kitchen than a typical kitchen remodel.
Avoid installation problems – Ill fitting doors or hinges can be a problem when installing new doors on old cabinets. We just make your old doors look like new and fit them back in the same place.
How do we refinish your cabinet doors? What is the process?
Up front pricing – We will give you a price up front and in writing.
Pick up – We normally pick up the doors and drawers and bring them to our shop which allows us to give you professional quality finishes AND keeps the mess out of your kitchen.
Repair and surface prep – We evaluate each set of doors for what process we believe will give the best results. Sometimes we run all the doors and drawer fronts through our industrial sander removing most or all of the finishes down to the bare wood. With others we hand scrape off the old varnish finish, spot repair color where needed and then spray new finishes.
Color and finish matching – For every kitchen we have custom stain mixed to precisely match the original color. After staining we build up the finishes with multiple coats of sanding sealer and the top coat of your choice.
Delivery and installation – We return to your home and reinstall the doors and drawers. The entire process takes 3-4 weeks so none of the waiting for months many people experience from other contractors.
Will my refinished cabinet doors match my existing cabinets?
Your refinished doors will match the original color they had when we took them down except they will look nearly new. We custom match color and sheen for excellent final results.
Do your cabinet doors have rings of melted finish around the pulls? This is a common problem with older wood doors. Our refinish process will remove and repair those ugly rings and wear spots.
We also do spot repairs on cabinet frames (especially under sinks) or on panels we cannot easily remove. Your doors and cabinets won't look mismatched. Our goal is to leave you with a beautiful kitchen. We want you to see a great job well done.
